Sculpture Park Visit

Happy Thursday! Today we had a busy day getting ready for our last big walk to the sculpture park! In the classroom some of the class helped make our own scavenger hunt. We made a list of different things that we could see on our walk such as flowers, butterflies, dogs, bikes, and lawn mowers. Then we found pictures to make our own scavenger hunt checklist to take with us! We took our time walking to the sculpture park and noticed different stores and resturants on our way. At the sculpture park we walked, ran, and skipped around to see each piece of artwork! One friend even found a bird's nest low in a tree with a mom bird and eggs! We made sure to be very careful around the nest and keep our hands to ourselves. We are excited about our last day of school tomorrow, we will dismiss at 11:15! Sorry no pictures today, the picture option isn't working. Have a great evening!

Kona Ice Truck

Happy Wednesday! Our plan for today was to make messy art outside on the playscape! First we took a trip to the materials library to grab a big piece of paper and our supplies to make art. Our class enjoyed throwing painted cotton balls at a big piece of paper on the wall outside. We also made art by marble painting in small foil trays. Ms. Kelly made us special colored ice cubes to paint with and explore in a sensory bin outside. She also brought out regular ice cubes and our animals to make our own small world. We decided to use the ice cubes to make a fizzy science experiment with vinegar and baking soda! After lunch the Kona Ice truck was ready for us to get our snocones! Each child got to pick their favorite flavor and we enjoyed them under the pergola. Ask your child about their favorite part of today!

Turtle at the Forest

Today was Tasty Tuesday.  We made trail mix snacks with M&Ms, marshmallows, gold fish and pretzels. They enjoyed making it and eagerly ate the mix- especially the chocolates.  Then we walked to the forest.  We climbed our favorite trees, crawled on the long logs, and ran on the paths.  A new secret hideout was discovered.  As we were preparing to leave, F. shouted, "I found something!" Everyone responded loudly, "What?"  F. replied, "A turtle!" Everyone ran to see what was found. F. had discovered a turtle by the forest fence.  We looked at it as it remained still wondering what it do.  After some time, the turtle stuck out his head.  Then it started to move slowly towards a log.  We were able to observe the turtle in its natural environment. Using an online Turtles of Missouri Field Guide, we determined that the turtle is a box turtle.  Then we decided to name the turtle Sonic. When we returned to school, F. showed us a toad.  Ask your child what was their favorite thing they did today!

“Look what I found!” -A.

“This is the rain forest” -S.

“Our secret hideout is called the rainforest” -F.

“I like this part because it is fun to climb on,” -M.Y.

“At least the turtle wasn’t a snapping turtle,” -M.R.

“It had a shell. It protects it from predators,” -B.

“It is its home.” -S.

“The mommy turtle protects the baby turtles,” -M.S.

“The turtle has little legs,” -T.

“I know where a toad is,” -F.

Disco Dance Party

Good afternoon! Today we had an exciting day getting ready for our disco dance party in the classroom. Before the dance party started some of the class worked on making tickets, decorations, and signs to hang up in the classroom. We also made a list of songs we wanted to dance to at our disco dance party. Some of the songs included: How Far I'll Go from Moana, Get Back Up Again from Trolls, Party in the USA (Kidz Bop), Dance Monkey (Kidz Bop), Old Town Road (Kidz Bop), Castle on the Hill (Kidz Bop), and Take Me Out the Ball Game. With our glow sticks in hand and our disco ball hung above the carpet we danced to each requested song in the classroom. Ask your child about their favorite song we danced to today. Have a great evening!

We found some worms and roly polies outside on the playscape and carefully placed them in the bug catcher.

"You can make 4 tickets and I can make 4 tickets" -A

We love how our paper mache disco ball tuned out!

Neighborhood Noticings

Good afternoon! Today we worked hard to finish our disco ball and decorations for our disco dance party on Monday. The class took turns decorating the disco ball with small jewels that stuck on the ball like stickers! We also worked on writing a list of songs we want to dance to at our disco dance party. On our walk today we noticed orange signs on the sidewalk. I asked the class what the signs meant and one friend said "They mean no littering on the ground!" another child said "Yeah, they mean don't throw your trash on the ground" We continued to walk and noticed a big bucket truck with workers trimming a big tree. We stopped to watch how they moved the bucket up and down the tree and cut the limbs. When we got to the top of the forest we sat in the shade and took time to draw what we saw on our walk. Ask your child what we saw today on our neighborhood walk. Have a great weekend!

We always stop to smell and admire the flowers on our walks!

We love to climb trees!
