The Quilt!

The quilt is finished! Yeah!  The children love the quilt and can't wait until they can start using it.  The quilt is beautiful and amazing.  The children are very proud of their hard work and learning.  This special activity covered so many domains of learning.  And it also brought forward so many memories that I had learning how to sew and making things. The children are ready to start designing and creating their own projects.  We can't wait to see where this may lead the classroom

Adding more beauty to the Light Atelier

After creating the Monopoly Light game, the children went even further to design more colored lights for the 'light atelier".  They each made a plan to add something new to give the friends at Ambrose a variety of things to do in the light atelier.  One plan was to make more colored lights to add to the atmosphere.  They added new lights to the walls, flash lights and a roll of lights to light up the floor.

Check it out!

Their next adventure is to add light boxes.

"Let the Sewing Begin!"

The children were very anxious to begin sewing.  We set and shared all about the sewing machine.  Like I said earlier, many of the children had never seen such a machine and were very excited about how it worked and if they were going to get a chance to use the pedal. (press fast)

We talked about how the machine works. The children practiced on keeping their hands safe before actually sewing on their own.  Once they were comfortable, they took off on their own.  It was amazing to see how the children took to using the machine appropriately and keep themselves safe.

Snail sculpture observations

We took a small group of children to the grassy hill to sketch drawings of the snail. We took a closer look to notice the details of the snail.

"There's a bump."- EM
"That's his nose."
"There are two doors." - MR

And and question was asked:
"How do we get to the top?" -RJ

We are planning to observe changes to the snail as they happen.

Carter's Story

"It's a path for the missile."
Tell me about your path. - Teacher asked
"You go forward, down, back up, straight, go down, up straight,
down, and then turn." - CF

The teacher asked, "What makes the lines?"
CF replied, "These were the lines of the missile. When the
fire blasts off, it leaves smoke."

              The drawing of the missile

The following day, CF created another path for the missile.

Blueberry Muffins

On PJ day, we went to the kitchen to make some muffins from our classroom vote that took place on Friday. Two small groups went to the kitchen to help with the baking.
We added flour

And "powder"

We stirred using a whisk

We mixed it up- pouring the wet ingredients into the dry

And last, we added the blueberries

We filled up the cups
"Are they done?" - DJ

And we have to clean up after ourselves

Natural discovery

Some other classrooms in the building discovered a "forest" at the Bird Sanctuary. They extended an
invite to other classrooms in the building so we took a group of children to visit.

                                           This is the entrance

There were lots of cozy nooks in the forest.

              Lots of risk-taking

How do we get to the mulch pile?

"Let me lead the way." - MG

After we explored in the forest, we talked about what the
children discovered.

Here are some of the ideas shared:

"We were taking a short cut. There was a turn, I went back out and in."
"I found a letter." - referring to a stick shaped like a letter
"I went to the top."
"Lots of places turning."
"We are taking the short way."
"There is a big pile and a small one."

We hope to visit again soon.
