Wednesday Exploration

Good afternoon! Today we spent time outside looking for more insects! We borrowed some insect carriers and magnifying glasses to use to explore the playscape. Some of our class added sticks, rocks, grass, and acorns to the insect carriers to make homes for the bugs. Outside we also enjoyed having some pretend play time in our kitchen under the pergola area at the top of the playscape. We also worked on decorating big paper plates so we can make our own tambourines. Our class has been interested in sounds and instruments the last couple weeks. Some of our class asked if we could make our own instruments! We will continue to work on our instruments the next couple days at school. Have a great evening!

Looking for Bugs at the Forest

Birch Room walked to the forest today to look for bugs. We brought magnifying glasses and bug catchers.  We ran around looking for bugs. Then we took our time and focused our magnifying glasses on the nature around us; carefully trying to see what we could find. Then we decided to run and play some of our favorite forest games.

We found a cricket! We took turns looking at it and tried to catch it. Unfortunately, the cricket was just too fast. Even though we couldn't catch any bugs to put in our bug catcher, we filled them up with some of our favorite things in the forest. Ask your child what they put in the bug catchers today.

T- Do you hear that noise?

M- I think it’s a grasshopper.

F- I saw one up there. See the leaves are moving. I think there is a bug in there.

S- We have a job to do. I’m putting in furniture for the bugs.

B looks at the spider web in hopes of finding a bug to put in the bug catcher.

A- We’re over here. Follow my voice. We are in our fort.

Who do you see resting in the forest fort?

Do you see the cricket?

Our Leaf Graph

Good afternoon! Today in the Birch room we used some of our leaves that we found on our leaf hunt on Friday to make a leaf graph. We talked about each colored leaf we found and each child took turns showing where each color leaf will go on our graph. We went around the circle twice allowing each child to place two leaves on the graph. After we placed our leaves on the graph we took turns counting the different color leaves and writing down how many we counted. Our class did a great job counting each leaf and practicing writing their numbers on our graph. After making our leaf graph we spent time outside painting with leaves and sticks. We used the colors that we find in fall to make a beautiful painting to hang up in the classroom! Have a great evening.

We're Going on a Leaf Hunt

Happy Friday! Today we spent time playing in the sandbox area of the playscape and exploring the big tree and fallen bark. While outside read a book called We're Going on a Leaf Hunt and talked about the different types of trees and leaves we can find outside. In our book, we even saw a pictures of a Birch tree and it's leaves! Ms. Kelly joined us to go on our very own leaf hunt just like in the book! Each child got their own paper bag to collect leaves on our walk. We looked for different shapes, sizes, and colors of leaves while on our walk. When we got to a shaded area by the forest we took some time to hunt for more leaves and mark them off on our leaf hunt list. Our challenge was to find as many different kinds of leaves we could and to find a pinecone! Our class loved going on the leaf hunt and throwing leaves up in the air to make a leaf party. Ask your child about what they found today on our leaf hunt. Have a great weekend!
