Can you make a map of the forest?

As we walked to the forest today we jumped on leaves and listened to the sounds as they crunched under our feet. In the classroom have been learning about maps and how to create them. Today we decided to make a map of the forest using paper and markers on small clipboards. On their maps our class made pictures of logs, leaves, trees and sticks. They walked around the forest to get ideas about what to draw on their maps.

Some friends pretended to go on a bear hunt through the forest.

We also enjoyed playing and making maps in our secret hiding spot.

We practiced our climbing skills in the forest on big trees and logs.

Watercolor Painting

Good afternoon! Today we enjoyed the nice weather and spent a lot of time outside. We used watercolors to paint our own pictures and explored mixing colors on the paper. While we were outside our class also played a superhero game where they pretended to be different superhero's. During the superhero game some of our class discovered something slimy under a piece of bark! They found two big slimy slugs crawling around and we're excited to watch them. Have a great evening!

Treasure Maps

Happy Friday! Today we decided to use scrap pieces of cardboard to create our own treasure maps! We took turns drawing the sandbox area on our cardboard and marking with an X where the treasure can be found! We even took turns hiding our own "treasure" which included sandbox toys, rocks, and sticks. Our class was excited to look at each others treasure maps and try to find where their friends hid their treasure. After we had plenty of time exploring the sandbox area Ms. Kelly joined us for a walk. We decided to walk a different way and see what we could notice in downtown Webster. Check out the pictures below to see what we noticed on our walk! I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Walk to the Sculpture Park

Happy Thursday! When we went out on the hillside today we noticed a note written on the big snail. Our class wondered what it said and who wrote it. After we explored the hillside we took a surprise walk with Ms. Kelly over to the sculpture park to explore! On the walk over we noticed different shops, restaurants, and buildings in downtown Webster. When we got to the sculpture park we noticed the first sculpture looked like a bird. Our class enjoying playing follow the leader on the side rock walls and pretended to sell ice cream out of a big sculpture. Some of our class wondered what the sculptures were and who made them. We enjoyed our time exploring and we hope to visit the sculpture park again soon!

Making our own maps

Good afternoon! Today we spent all morning outside enjoying the beautiful weather. Our class enjoyed playing superhero's and a princess and queen game. They used the mud kitchen materials to make pretend food and create their own secret hide out. While we were outside we took time to create our own maps of anything we wanted to make. It was amazing to see all the details and drawings each child put on their map. Here's some of the things that our class included on our maps:
"I made my home and my school!" -T
"I'm making a treasure map!" -B
"I made a doggy on mine!" -S
"I made my friends on my map!" -M.S.
"I made the leaves on the trees yellow for fall!" -A
"I made a tree and some grass" -F
"This is the big snail, the mud kitchen, and a tree!" -M.R.
Ask your child about what kind of map they created and what details they added. Have a great evening!

Voting and Sandbox Exploration

Good afternoon! Today we listened to the story Duck for President and had a conversation about what it means to vote. Some of our class had heard about voting before and some asked "What is voting?" In the story the whole farm of animals are voting for either Farmer Brown or Duck to be in charge of the farm. The class noticed that in the story Duck got more votes then Farmer Brown and that he was in charge. We decided to vote by writing the names "Duck" and "Farmer Brown" and putting our own colored circle under the one we wanted to vote for. After everyone had a chance to vote we took turns counting the votes and Duck had 4 votes and Farmer Brown had 3 votes. Our class decided that Duck won the vote in our class just like the book! After we voted we spent time outside playing in the sandbox. Some of our class built bridges and seesaws with big tubes and large pieces of bark. Some of our class made cakes out of sand or played a spaceship game. We will see everyone on Wednesday!
