Jewel Lined Streets

The classroom was busy this morning.  All kind of learning was taking place.  One activity that was taking place was the children using their floor map.  They place loose materials onto the streets of the map.  They were talking to each other about how they liked the streets decorated.  They added other loose material to create a grocery store and eventually a swimming pool.

They added their wooden block houses and people.

They used to map to figure out how to get to each others house.  Once there they played in the yards and even took a nap.

After the nap, it was off to the grocery to buy for their guest. (made of corks)

There is no limit to pretend play.  Our imaginations can take us wherever we want to go and what better way to go then traveling on jeweled line streets. This map journey has been taking the children all around.  We can't wait to see where this map study will lead the children.

Tree observations

We sketched observations of one of the trees on the hillside.
Children represented their ideas using oil pastels.

"My leaves are falling off the tree." DC

"My tree needs roots."- RJ
The following day we glued some leaves from the tree around the drawings.

Off they go to Nurses for Newborns

Let's recap our day.  We started out by displaying all of the baby items for Ms. Kate to see when she walked into the room.  The children were very excited to see all of the items that were donated.

Then it was off to the gym for the Dance Party.  We stood
proud as we welcomed all of  our friends from Ambrose.
We shouted out a great big "thank you" and told our friends
to "Let's get the party started."

Ambrose kids can party.  They have some great dance moves.

Ms. Kate from Nurses for Newborn came.  She thanked the kids and answered a few questions that they had for her and listened to all of the wonderful stories that the children told her about their experiences with babies.

After the visit, the children helped with getting all of the baby items out to Ms. Kate's car.

One big hug and good-bye.  What a great day!

Next week we will do a overview on all that took place.  Stay tuned.

The Start of the Thank You's!

The children worked hard with getting the thank you cards ready for the big day.  On Thursday, Nurses for Newborns will be here to collect all of the wonderful baby items that the families have donated.  The children planned a special morning for all the children and staff in the program.  One special things that will take place is saying "thank you" to all of the people who helped makes this project a success.

This is the beginning of one of the thank you cards.  This beautiful painting is going to make a great thank you card and a lovely piece to hang in the classroom or office.

Two down and eight more to go!
