Lots of Discoveries!

While exploring with some new manipulatives, the children discovered that they can transform these one from object to another object.  DW -  created a bridge that cars go under and it transform into a Sky Ship.  It flies around the world and sprays water.

Later in the morning while playing in the sand box, the children started pretending that they were mermaids and burying their feet in the sand to discover how much fun it is to bury legs too.

A gift for the Forest...

As the school year winds down, the trips to the Forest with Willow friends is winding down. A small group from Birch and Willow met this morning to make plans for a "gift" to leave at the Forest. As the children talked, they shared how much they love the Forest- maybe there could be a place to rest or we could build a fort using the sticks. MR suggested, "We could create hearts for all the different paths that could lead you to hideaways.

The children talked about different materials they could use including glitter, sparkles, nature, words, wood, sticks, straw, and jewels.

We took a short walk around the school to begin to gather some nature materials.

Look at some of our findings!!

We will begin work with Willow later this week to deliver our "gifts" to the Forest next Tuesday.

String Masterpiece!

String and a Peg board lead the children into creating a calendar.

CI and LB started out with just taking some yarn and wrapping it around the pegs on a peg board. Once they were done they added paper with pictures of their favorite things and placed them on the board.  When asked about what they were making, the response from them was "a calendar."

As the project went forward the children shared that they added their birthdays, seasons, special days that are to be celebrated to the calendar.  Who would have imagined what string and peg board could become.

Caper Time!

Caper time was packed full of exciting adventures today.  The children explored in the classrooms where building with the big blue blocks, foot painting, shadowing dancing, experimenting with milk and dish detergent, bead art, boat riding, sensory table, and clay making with loose parts were taking place. While all of that was going on, two special people from "We Stories" stopped by to visit and they took time out to read to the children.

Quiche in the kitchen

We visited the kitchen this morning to bake a quiche with a special visitor, Layla's mom, Ms. Fran. She brought in the cookbook that the recipe comes from. We prepped some of the ingredients.
We chopped up some broccoli

And cracked the eggs

We used kitchen tools to whisk them together.

Adding the cheese to the quiche

Before we added the egg mixture!! And one of the quiches had a secret ingredient- pickles!!

The bowl was heavy so Ms. Fran spread out the egg mixture.

After the egg mixture

While we waited for the quiche to cool, Ms. Fran read us a book called Goodnight Moon and it was written in the French language.

We tried the quiche at lunch. We will take a vote later today to see how we felt about the quiche.
Thanks to Layla and her mom, Ms. Fran, for sharing the recipe with us.
