Rain Cloud

Today we did a rain cloud experiment.  First we filled up a clear container with water.  Then we added shaving cream and each student had a turn putting in drops of food coloring.  We waited and observed the colors slowly traveling down the cream into the water. This morning also we made apple prints and created glittered artwork.  We built with blocks, filled more molds for new crayons, and weaved with yarn. We read several books too. Ask your child what was their favorite activity at school today.

Wednesday Explorations

Good afternoon! Today in the classroom we worked on creating our own crayons out of small crayon shavings. We have been working hard to shave our crayons this week to be able to create our small rainbow colored star and heart crayons! We also explored floam in the classroom. Our class figured out how we can shape it into a ball and roll it with a small roller. On the hillside we worked together to clean some connectors in soapy water and made watercolor artwork! Some of the class also played soccer and pretended to use the gate and a small bucket as a soccer goal. Ask your child about their favorite part of today! Have a great evening.

Disco Party Preparations

Last week we asked the students how they wanted to celebrate the last week of school and they replied that they wanted to have a disco dance party. They are really looking forward to the dance party and the other last week of school activities!  Instead of going to the forest this morning, we decided to work on our disco ball for our disco dance party, which we will have on Monday. Yesterday we started making our paper mache disco ball and other decorations.  Today we began decorating our disco ball with small pieces of tissue paper. We also played with Legos on the light table, built with blocks on the carpet, made a marble run and colored with pastels.  We also went to the gym twice. They climbed the rock wall, played with the stuffed soccer balls, rode bikes, played with dinosaurs, played with the doll house, and had a lot of fun! Ask your child what was their favorite part of the day.

Yesterday B. cut strips of paper for the disco ball while M.S. stirred the paste.

M.S., A., and B. stirred the glue mixture.

M.S. and A. started pasting tissue paper to the disco ball.

Everyone worked together to decorate the disco ball.

M.Y. and T. created a village for the animals.

Everyone had fun playing in the gym!

New Ramps

Good afternoon! Today our class was surprised to find something new on the block carpet to explore. They discovered new composite deck boards to build bridges or ramps for cars. It was great to see the class working together and trying different building techniques to make the cars go faster. We also celebrated our friend M.Y.'s 5th birthday today! Our birthday tradition in the Birch room is to decorate a birthday canvas with sharpies and watercolor pencils to hang in the classroom. Some of the class continued working on our decorations for our disco dance party next week. Ms. Kelly also helped the class start making a big disco ball with a balloon and paper mache! Stayed tuned to see how our disco dance party decorations turn out!

Friday Fun

Good afternoon! We have been talking about the last couple weeks of school and what activities we can do in our classroom and outside. Some of the class suggested that we can have a disco dance party with a big disco ball and glowsticks. We worked together in the classroom to start making decorations for our dance party and starting hanging them up around the classroom. On the playscape some of the class played color and shape Bingo together, built creations with magnetic blocks, and colored with sidewalk chalk. One friend suggested that we draw hopscotch on the sidewalk and helped write in the numbers as they went down the hill. Have a great weekend!
