New Color with Scarfs

The children took colored scarfs and hung them on
the wall over some lights.  They noticed that the lights
changed colors.

Shinning flashlights onto the scarfs changed the colors.

"Look, I see myself ."

"Check me out."

Plantain chips

On Tuesday, after our long weekend, we began work on a recipe for small capers. We had tasted
bananas and a new fruit, plantains. Green Room researched the recipe and wrote out the needed
ingredients on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, we took a short walk to Straubs to pick up
ingredients that were missing from our kitchen.

During small capers, two small groups visited the kitchen to prepare two
different kinds: cinnamon and sugar & salt and pepper.

During our meeting before lunch, we reflected about small capers. We discussed what the
plantains tasted like- one of the friends said a potato. This led to a conversation about potatoes
including sweet potatoes, party potatoes, and mashed potatoes. Stay tuned for where this may
take us.

Tasting bananas

Before winter break, Christian and his family brought in a banana plant that
sparked curiosity among the children not only in Green Room, but during Small Capers.
The children talked about which bananas are their favorite- yellow, green, green & yellow, or brown. During small capers on Thursday, we taste tested bananas at their different stages of ripening.

We even tried a new fruit- a plantain.

"That one is bigger."-CF

Thoughts shared during the tasting:
"I'm definitely going to like this."
"This one doesn't taste like the green, it tastes good."- KL
"When you leave them out for a long time, it gets rotted, it tastes weird." -TW
"MMM."
"Are they rotten?"- TB
"They taste delicious." - PW

We are working on a recipe for plantains this week during Capers.

Classroom Book

Title:  The Night Before Rainbow
By Green Room Friends
Illustrated by Green Room Friends

It was the night before Rainbow and all the
children were dreaming of rainbow.

There was a yellow banana.

A red apple.

An orange sun.

A black wheel.

A blue marker.

A green stop light.

A brown bear.

A purple grape.

A pink flower.

That is what makes a rainbow.

The End
