The Map of Birch

Throughout the year, Birch has been trying to understand their place in the world. We wanted to represent their ideas through our own map about the places close to us. As we shared a few weeks ago, we drew places that could be found in The Big City. (aka St. Louis)
After tracing the outline of the state of Missouri, we arranged the places of the Big City.

All the children are represented on parts of the map whether they drew themselves or a place in the Big City (aka St. Louis). Some children wished to visit the Science Center or the Arch or Grant's Farm to name a few.

After we arranged the places in the Big City that are a part of Missouri, we painted the Missouri outline that had been traced.

The pockets on the map were created to represent where we started with our houses that are a part of Webster Groves. WG is a part of the Big City (St. Louis) and St. Louis is part of Missouri.

So much rich conversation took place about how we are all part of a bigger world. We have seen some of you looking at the map throughout the week so we encourage you to visit with your children this afternoon to share all that we have learned this year.
Have a great summer!!

P.S. Be sure to take a look at the book In and Around the WG!!

Forest Tuesday

We went to the Forest for our last Tuesday with Willow. Birch had ice cream and we bought our friends from Willow popsicles and they shared their fruit salad with us.

After our snack, we gathered together to talk about our gifts to the Forest. Last week, we decorated hearts because we love the Forest as well as leaving our painted walking sticks.

A small group went to place the hearts in special spots inside the Forest.

While other children went to explore inside the Forest.

A beautiful day for the Forest!!

Picnic Time!

Today we had the opportunity to have a picnic outside.  It was a little overcast which made the temperature fabulous.  Sunbutter and jelly sandwiches, carrots, peaches and some cold milk was just perfect for the event.

Pajama Day

It was the perfect day for pajamas with all the rain outside.

We played games and a small group went to the kitchen to make ice cream for us to bring to the Forest on Tuesday.

We played some soft music while we enjoyed the books we brought to school.

And after lunch, we walked a "runway" to show off our pajamas.

Hope all of you have a great weekend!!

Wet and Messy Caper Day

Wet and Messy Caper Day was a blast! It started out in the classrooms and was noticed that it was going to be way too messy to stay inside.  So, Birch took it outside and the wet and messy day started to pop off without a hitch.

What better way to get wet then with a hose.

Water mister fun!

 Building sand castles.

 Enjoying popsicles.

Painting with food coloring and corn syrup.
