Collaboratory Bridge Challenge

Today a small group went to the Collaboratory for a building bridge challenge.  The challenge was

How can you build a bridge so you can go over and under it?

The kids got right to work pulling blocks off the shelves. They knew they needed blocks on and off the ground.  As they built I kept reminding them of the challenge question making them think if their block placements were going to work.

As one group worked together M decided to build a bridge on his own.  It was a simple bridge, but it worked.  Each kid tried it out.

As the other bridge was being worked on they kept trying to see if they could crawl under and go over.

When the kids were trying out the bridge it reminded them of the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  They continued to roleplay this story on each bridge they built.

They decided to build one more bridge that we could leave up in the Collaboratory for our other friends to see and use.
