Number Detectives

Good afternoon! Today we enjoyed being number detectives in the classroom by painting with watercolors. While painting with watercolors we discovered different numbers written on the paper in white crayon and identified what numbers we saw. We also read a book called Same, Same, But Different during our morning meeting. This book is about a boy from the United States and and boy from India who are pen pals and write to each other about their lives. Some of the things we noticed in this story were:

"They don't have as many cars there." -M.R.

"The horses pull the cars and ours drive on their own!" -S

"It's always hot there and we have cold weather where we live" -A

"Woah, they have lots of people living in their house!" -M.Y.

We had a conversation about how different countries and different cultures do things differently and that's what makes them special. Have a great weekend.

Neighborhood Walk

Good afternoon! Today we decided to take a long neighborhood walk to see what we noticed around Webster. On our walk we noticed different shops, banks, churches, and houses. One student pointed out where the fire station was and we spotted City Hall nearby. On our walk we played "I Spy" and used our detective skills to figure out what item our friends were thinking about. On the hillside our class decided to dig for treasure and found a worm in the dirt! The class decided to name the worm Charlie and watched him wiggle around on the ground. Have a great evening!

Can you spot our worm?

Sink Vs. Float Experiment

Good afternoon! Today we enjoyed the warmer weather and explored the hillside with the mud kitchen. Some of the class pretended to cook and bake inside the mud kitchen. Another group decided to play a "movie game" where they used a pretend remote control to turn on a movie and acted out different actions that were called out. We also did a sink vs. float science experiment to see which items from our classroom would sink or float. Each child picked one item in the classroom and an item from outside to test out in our water bin. We made predictions about which items would sink and which items would float. When we went inside we counted how many items sank to the bottom and how many items floated on top of the water. Ask your child about our science experiment. Have a great evening!

Back to the Forest

Today the Birch Room eagerly returned to our normal Tuesday Forest Day routine. We put our boots on and headed off on our walk to the Forest. When we arrived, we noticed the newly planted tree had several decorations on it. We admired the decorations and then ran into the forest to see if there were any other changes. Students discovered a new secret hiding spot and helped add to it by putting branches on top. We also had a mud/ice party and climbed on our favorite trees and limbs.

“I’m a werewolf. I’m the leader of the pack,” -M.R.

"It's a mud party guys," -B.
"No, it's an ice party," -S.

“Look what I found!” -B.

“I’m building something,” - S.

"Woah, look! A new secret hiding spot!" -S.

"We need to make it super strong with big sticks!" -B.
"I'll put a big one on here!" -M.Y.
"I found a stick too!" -F.

Snow Exploration

Good afternoon! Today explored with dinosaurs and created footprints in paint. Our class noticed that some footprints were bigger than others and that each set of footprints were shaped different. After making our dinosaur tracks we decided to give the dinosaurs a bath in soapy water. We used teamwork and some of the class washed the dinosaurs with a washcloth and then passed them to another child to dry the dinosaurs. We also went outside today to explore the fallen snow we had left on the playscape. Our class went on a footprint hunt to see what footprints we could see in the snow. We even made our own animal tracks with sticks and our fingers in the snow. Have a great evening!

"You guys can wash the dinosaurs and I will dry them!" -A

"Let's go find some animal footprints!" -B
"Follow me!" -T

"What animal made those?" -S
"Maybe it was a big elephant!" -M.S.

"Look! I made my own animal track!" -B

"Let's build the castle" -F
