Today was the perfect day for collaboration. As I walked around the capering spaces I observed children happily working together. I heard some friends talking with one another sharing ideas. One idea would be brought up, another friend would eagerly add his/her thoughts and the collaboration would grow.
In other spaces children were independently creating with another friend nearby. There was focused noticing, trial and error, imitation, and learning happening.
It is one of the many special things about Ambrose, a place where children can work an grow and learn both with and from one another. It is a space of beautiful collaboration.
"I'm making a rollercoaster." HW
JG, you were inspired by your friend's imagination. How can you connect your ideas together?
HW, your imagination took a different direction and you created a music machine that brings music to the WHOLE neighborhood.
"If you don't want the music tell the google." HW
Ideas aren't the only things that work together. Our materials work together too! It can be a challenge to stretch our brains new and different directions. Sometimes wood blocks only create with...other wood blocks. Acrylic blocks create with...other acrylic blocks. But what happens when they are combined? What new and different things can you discover? How can these materials work together to create something new?
Our Birch room is a community. When something exciting happens to one of us it affects us all. Yesterday one of our friends became a big brother again! There has been MUCH excitement about the arrival of JW's new baby brother. So much so that it was reflected through our play today!
"These are the babies. The wall around them is protecting them from the hot lava." LB
"This is the sign that says milk" RR
"This is the bridge so we can get over the hot lava to the babies." LB
Oh NO! The wall broke. The hot lava is going towards the babies.
"It's okay, it turns to milk when it gets in."
"This is the hospital. All the babies are in there!" SS
LT, you are creating with SO many colors. What part of these stories are you building? How can you add more to your story? We talked, and my questions made new connections in your brain. You built an amazing story!
Check out what else we were able to connect to during Capers today.
