Walking Wednesday

Walking Wednesday has quickly become a favorite activity to look forward to.  We are so grateful to be able to go to school in a community such as ours.  Our young learners are quickly finding their place and recognizing their value as part of our community.

As we have walked, we are noticing the things around us that are meaningful to us.  We hear comments about restaurants people have eaten at.  Stores people have shopped at.  Places that offer services we use (we KNOW lots of Daddies go to the Hair Saloon!).  Especially important for our friends is the recognition of routes they take to get to and from home, or the homes of friends and family!

We are all part of our community, and we each have an important role in it.  Today our adventures took us to one of our favorite spots to explore, the Sculpture Garden!

"There is a sign here.  What is it for?" JI and LB
Hmmm, I see a name on this sign.  I wonder why there is a name on the sign?
"Maybe that is the bird's name!" JI
What a great thought!  I love your idea.

"Catharine the Bird!"
She is very well loved, and oh so beautiful!
She bring us great joy.
And although she may look like a bird at first glance, our amazing imaginations turn her into all sorts of miraculous things.

"I'm driving.  You sit in the back seat."
"I'll move over.  You can sit here, E."

"Look at me!  I'm way up here!" ES

And while many friends climbed and created stories of adventure atop Catharine the bird, others just simply sat and enjoyed the beautiful space.

The gorgeous, colorful sculpture isn't the only place of beauty at the park.  These bushes are an amazing place to create adventure.  They are so tall our friends can climb right inside!

Can you tell what these friends were playing today?

Another way we celebrate our belongingness in our Birch community, it to honor our birthday boys and girls.  Today we have another five year old!  Happy Birthday D!

Your friends were so excited to sing Happy Birthday and have you "blow out" the candle on our classroom cake!

Your friends were so thoughtful in choosing special gems to add to you "birthday crystals"

Whether in our classroom, or out in our community, there is a special place for each and everyone of us.  We are all important, and we all belong here!

We are glad you are part of our family!
