    A small group of children went to the Atelier to take some machines apart. Before we started,

    We discussed some of the tools we saw when we arrived. 

    Wrench: turns wheels and helps get things off

    Hammer: puts nails down

    Screwdriver: To take screws in and out (one is flat that we call pointy, one is bigger that is circlie) 

    Measurer: how long, wide, or tall something is, you can also count

   

            Observations:

         "It weighs 15." - Charlotte 

         "It's too tight in there." - Colman 

         "Mr. Johnny uses these tools." - Grace

         "Why do none of these have batteries except standing ones?" - Billy

         "Look at all the wires in there!" 

         "Use strong muscles." - Colman 

Caring for the space

As the weather gets warmer, we are beginning to wake up the playscape. We took a small groups outside to begin pulling weeds, picking up trash, and caring for the playscape.

We are looking for old machines to take apart. So please look around your homes

and bring in anything you think we could use.

Jet Masks

"Parachutes help the people land slow."

The children have been pretending to jump off their jets with parachutes. Today they got a chance to see how parachutes work. They then tested out other materials to see if they had the same effect.

Billy's Dad Visits the Green Room

Billy's dad helped us create an amazing batch of brownies.

He brought liquid nitrogen in order to help the kids see what happens during extreme cold temperatures.

The kids enjoyed watching the ballon deflate in the liquid nitrogen.

The also enjoyed watched the flower crumble.

Then we used the liquid nitrogen to make ice cream.

Both the brownies and the ice cream were very yummy:)
