Fabulous Friday!

Hello and happy Friday! I hope you all have had a good week. The students began this beautiful day by making choices in the room. These choices consisted of playing a counting game with Ms. Gayle, building with loose parts, designing at the light table, and measuring with blocks.

 

We later adventured out to the playscape where a lot of friends created and built in the sandbox while others made magic out of mud and rocks in the boat. We came inside and built with blocks, worked together to complete puzzles and created artwork at the art table. The class read a few books before going to lunch and enjoyed cheesy pizza. Have a fabulous weekend!

 

Rolling Ridge

Good afternoon! We began our morning by making choices. Some students practiced measuring objects around the room and then showed interest in measuring themselves out of blocks! After choices, we took an exciting walk to Rolling Ridge to buy bird seed for our neighborhood birds!

 

We started out with five dollars and planned to ask for three pounds of bird seed. Once we arrived, a few of the students went inside the store and explained to the workers that they need bird seed and that we need three pounds. We read the numbers on the scale and measured out our desired amount. The students brought the money to the cashier, counted out the money, received their receipt and thanked the workers. They did such a great job with purchasing their bird seed!

 

The group of students gathered with the rest of the class and walked to see the four chickens out back. We saw several types of chickens and discussed their similarities and differences.

We returned to school and joined in on the Artsy Thursday fun for celebrating The Week of the Young Child. The class drew chalk creations in the front of school. Make sure to take a look at all of their artwork!

Happy half way through the week! The Birch students have been very busy outside today!

We began our morning by making choices in the room. One choice turned into a tossing game with bean bags. Other friends found items in the room and matched them to the beginning sounds of some letters. As the morning continued, we went outside to play in the mud kitchen. A lot of friends made some delicious food, such as pasta and pizza. 

 

 

We painted our birdhouse! The kids decided to make it nice and colorful and worked well painting together. They are excited to hang it in a tree for our neighborhood birds! While students were waiting for a turn to paint, they dug out worms for the birds. Way to take care of our birds, Birch! 

Continuing to celebrate The Week of the Young Child, the class later joined  other classes on the playscape to help clean up this area for "Work Together Wednesday." Some friends helped wipe gravel off of the top of the cave and others spread the gravel under the slide. A group of students moved some wood back into the boat while others found rocks and returned them to the rock river. We sure had a busy day!  

Tasty Tuesday!

Good afternoon! The Birch students began their morning by greeting one another, and completing some choices in the classroom. There were several choices this morning to support the children's letter and number recognition and counting skills. Some students created words and built the alphabet using hangers and clothespins. Other students chose a number and built that number with buttons. At the light table, the students were given a challenge to build numbers with loose parts. Other friends completed puzzles and wrote books about birds!

 

 

 

As the morning continued, we went outside and enjoyed some fresh air and sunshine. Some students made a fire and camp out of wood while others enjoyed building in the sandbox. We later moved over to the hillside and enjoyed some delicious popsicles to celebrate The Week of the Young Child! This was a great snack to enjoy with our Maple friends in the sunshine. It's music time!

Hello and happy Monday! The students were very excited to be back at school and are full of energy today. They are ready to play and learn!

We began our morning by designing and creating with loose parts at table and the light table. Other students used an old box that we painted red and played with dinosaurs and other animals. They used the box as a mountain/volcano! Other friends made books at the art table and created animals out of clay. Some students played Candy Land!

 

We had a special surprise from Ms. Katie! She came into the classroom today with her guitar and played some songs for us! The class listened to some of her songs and sang along to other songs, such as "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." The students had a lot of questions for Katie about her guitar. Some questions were:

How does the guitar make noise?
What are those things at the top of the guitar? Why do you twist them?
Why is there a hole in the guitar?
Why do you move your fingers on the strings?

Ms. Katie showed the students how the sound changes when she moves her fingers up and down the strings and neck of the guitar. The students figured out that the sound came out of the hole of the guitar and they got a chance to strum the instrument! One student reminded the class of the instruments we made a few weeks ago. They started to notice the differences in Ms. Katie's guitar and our classroom guitar. Some kids mentioned how our classroom guitar does not have a neck or a hole. We talked about changing our guitar to make it look more like Ms. Katie's guitar.

After our musical guest visited our room, we went outside to play and enjoy the weather. Have a great Monday!

DADADADADADA-GO CARDS!

DADADADADADA-GO CARDS! What an exciting day in Birch.  We went all in with baseball this morning.  There was a drawing of a stadium, a block ballpark and we even had an impromptu indoor game with a beanbag ball.  The rest of the morning was filled with loose parts, puzzles, Bingo and building in the collaboratory.

Thursday Fun!

Reminder that we are celebrating Cardinals opening day, tomorrow Friday, April 5th! Feel free to have your child wear red or Cardinals gear!

Hello! I hope you are staying dry today! We have been playing in all areas of the school to release some energy and get some exercise!

We began our morning by making choices in the classroom. We had loose parts scattered throughout the classroom. Some students built "forts" out of sticks and cardboard at the light table while others used popsicle sticks to catapult a variety of materials. Other friends played a letter matching game with letter tiles and clips. A group of students went to the gym. Back in the classroom, students painted, built a house with blocks and completed a puzzle of the United States of America! They had a lot of questions about our country and shared stories about all of the places they have been. Some friends exercised in the hallway before lunchtime. The students enjoyed pasta with a fruit and veggie. It's a great rainy day for them to take a snooze!
