Friday Fun

Happy Friday! The Birch students were busy building, designing, and making books today! And of course, we played outside!

We began the morning by making choices in the classroom. The  choices consisted of designing with loose parts, making a birthday celebration for a classmate, book making and building at the light table. The students are getting very good at making their own books...ask your child if they made a book today at school and have them share it with you!

We continued the morning by playing outside. We played with our Maple and Spruce friends on the playscape and make a "rocket fort." The students used logs and big rocks to create this rocket fort and they took turns making the fort "blast off!"

We returned inside to watch a video on volcanoes and we plan to create our very own next week! The students checked on our pumpkin seeds and we are excited to make those yummy treats next week as well. A group of students made sensory bottles out of clear glue, water and glitter. They are so excited to use them! Have a wonderful weekend!

Deconstructing a Pumpkin

During Capers today we deconstructed a pumpkin! We talked about how it felt, guessed what was inside and how to get it open.

"It's hard."

"There's goo inside"

"I eat pumpkin seeds"

Longest Bridge Ever

The children were inspired by our "Bridges Around the World" book.  They began making a bridge around the classroom. 

The students are becoming more elaborate with their buildings and they are paying attention to the details.  I have also noticed that as they are building they are working on more supports and building their bridges up off the ground rather than laying blocks on the floor as before. 

The building continued into capers.

This is a castle at the end of the bridge.  The girls were very meticulous where they placed their jewels. They continued building and added the opening to their castle.

Hello and happy picture day! The students gave their best, big smiles for their pictures!

We began the morning by making choices. Friends created faces out of floam and rocks. Others built a fence around the carpet that turned into a stage! Ms. Susie turned on some songs and the students started performing with microphones and instruments out of blocks. Another group of kids drew their Halloween costumes and created books at the art table.

After playing, the class exercised and practiced some meditation to GoNoodle. We watched an exciting video on volcanoes! We plan to create our own volcano next week, so stay tuned! If you have any books about volcanoes, we would love for you to share them with the class! The Birch room took our pictures and played outside before lunch. Have a great afternoon!
