New Ramps

 Good afternoon! Today our class was surprised to find something new on the block carpet to explore. They discovered new composite deck boards to build bridges or ramps for cars. It was great to see the class working together and trying different building techniques to make the cars go faster. We also celebrated our friend M.Y.'s 5th birthday today! Our birthday tradition in the Birch room is to decorate a birthday canvas with sharpies and watercolor pencils to hang in the classroom. Some of the class continued working on our decorations for our disco dance party next week. Ms. Kelly also helped the class start making a big disco ball with a balloon and paper mache! Stayed tuned to see how our disco dance party decorations turn out!

Friday Fun

 Good afternoon! We have been talking about the last couple weeks of school and what activities we can do in our classroom and outside. Some of the class suggested that we can have a disco dance party with a big disco ball and glowsticks. We worked together in the classroom to start making decorations for our dance party and starting hanging them up around the classroom. On the playscape some of the class played color and shape Bingo together, built creations with magnetic blocks, and colored with sidewalk chalk. One friend suggested that we draw hopscotch on the sidewalk and helped write in the numbers as they went down the hill. Have a great weekend!

Pulley Exploration

 Good afternoon! On the playscape today we explored the slide area. Some of the class asked to used the rope to help lift different materials up the climbing wall. One student found a small metal bucket that we tied to the rope to use as a pulley. Everyone took turns filling the bucket at the bottom of the climbing wall and pulling it up carefully. Some friends also discovered a new big spool and pieces of wood to explore. They worked together to create a slide where you can climb up one side and slide down the other side. Another group decided to work on writing lists and drawing pictures of American flags. On our walk yesterday we noticed lots of American flags and they decided to try to draw pictures of what they saw. Have a great evening.

Neighborhood Walk

 Good afternoon! Today we decided to take a long walk around the neighborhood. Our class first noticed construction trucks on the street rolling down new pavement in front of our school. We kept walking to see what else we noticed on our long walk. We saw many different kinds flowers and trees that we tried to figure out what kind each one was. One of our friends knew that a tall purple flower was called Iris because she has some in her own yard at home. We also noticed some pink roses on our walk and one friend said "Don't touch the roses, they have thorns that can hurt you." We remembered our rule of just looking with our eyes and not touching the flowers and bushes. On our walk we also noticed a tree that might be a Birch tree and a new tiny library we haven't seen before. Ask your child about what we saw today on our walk.

Forest Fun

On Tuesdays, we walk to the forest to spend time surrounded by nature. Today we held slugs, saw different types of bugs, heard what may have been an owl, played with a spider web, smelled honeysuckle, climbed trees, crawled on logs, made nature bouquets, created a new secret hideout and ran throughout the forest. Friends encouraged each other to be brave at the forest by showing each other ways to come down off the log by themselves instead of calling a teacher for help. They showed each other kindness by working together to build their forest creations and shared flowers with each other.  Ask your child what they did in the forest today.
