Leaf Party!

 It's a leaf party! We had the best day full of laughter, being silly, and throwing leaves. 

(If you look closely you can see JW hiding in the huge leaf pile)

 

Replanting a "Birch" Tree

SS found a fallen "tree" in the forest. It was white with stripes, could it be a Birch Tree? We checked with what we knew about birch trees. 

White Bark - Check! (ish)

Dark Lines - Check! (ish)

Smaller - Check!

Yellow Leaves - Check! (ish) 

Could it be a birch? It must be. No matter the type of tree, PC decided we needed to save it. We needed to move it to the sunshine, dig a hole, and help it grow!

Our replanting took so much communication, so much teamwork, and SO much creative thinking. We left the forest with a tree, standing tall, and a protective fence all around.

Deserts, Scorpions, and letters!

Today we worked our brains and bodies. Our room was full of spaces where students could practice their big and small motor skills as well as challenge their brain. 

We drew and labeled the parts of a scorpion. 

We built desert creatures with floam. 

We put all our desert "juicy" words in ABC order. 

We crawled across the carpet like scorpions to collect food. 

We made patterns in the desert sand. 

What a day!

Sensory Day

 Today we did all the things sensory and we had such a blast. We were both messy and curious while playing and learning today. 

Sensory play invites curiosity and creativity, helping children make sense of the world around them through their hands-on exploration. 

We poured and scooped.  

 

 

We mixed and created.

We blended and created colors that reminded us of a desert scene. 

 

We also did a relay race as a scorpion!

We divided into two teams. Each team had one member roll their dice. After counting the dots, we decided which number was larger. (phew - so much math!) That person got to draw an animal card from the stack. Once we had the animal, we agreed on how that animal would move (wow -  much comprising and working together!)

When I said go, each set of students would race to the bean bag and bring it back to the next racer. Each person trying to navigate when to go and how to move. (Whoa - all that gross motor work!) First team to finish WINS! (yikes -  we worked through some strong feelings about not being the fastest.)

All this big, important preschool work, and all we did was play a fun game. 

Winter Jackets and Bucket Filling

Today we learned all about filling buckets — not with water or sand, but with kindness! The idea comes from the book “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” by Carol McCloud, which teaches children that everyone carries an invisible bucket that holds their feelings. When our buckets are full, we feel happy, loved, and confident. When our buckets are empty, we might feel sad, lonely, or discouraged.

We talk about how we can fill someone’s bucket by doing kind things — offering a helping hand, sharing toys, using gentle words, or including others in play. Every time we show kindness, we’re not only filling someone else’s bucket, but we’re filling our own too! It’s a simple, powerful lesson in empathy and the joy that comes from giving.

As we practice filling buckets together, we’re also learning about community — how our actions affect those around us. Working together, caring for one another, and celebrating each other’s successes help us build a classroom where everyone feels valued and connected. When children see that kindness ripples outward, they begin to understand that they have the power to make their world a better place.

Ask your child:

• “Whose bucket did you fill today?”

• “How did someone fill your bucket?”

• “What can we do as a family to fill each other’s buckets?”

By nurturing these small acts of kindness, we’re teaching our children that community starts with one child — one kind word, one helping hand, and one full bucket at a time.

WINTER IS COMING!

As the weather begins to change, we want to remind you that we will continue to spend time outdoors each day. Fresh air and outdoor play are important parts of our daily routine, helping children stay healthy, active, and happy — even during the colder months!

We will go outside for at least a short period of time whenever the temperature (including wind chill) is above 10°F. Please be sure your child comes to school each day with for the weather — including a warm coat, hat, and mittens or gloves.

Having an extra set of warm clothes in your child’s cubby is also helpful for those times when things get a little wet or muddy.
