Exploring Bug Homes

Today we asked children to continue to explore insects. We had two focused questions which focused on bug homes: "How can you build a bug home?" and "What do bugs do when no one is looking?".

K - Ahh! A tornado

E - *making a blowing sound* that means they are getting saved

Miss Brooke - What is happening with your frog?

E - He's out of power. Water power. He's a submarine now.

How Do You Build A Bug Home?

B - I read a book and it says ants like to go in cracks, so I think ants would live here.

L - I made a home for rollie pollies. They have a little couch that they sit on. They have a cage too. I made lots of places to crawl. They like that.

Miss Brooke - I wonder what else your rollie pollies would need?

O - Well, my home is for worms, slugs, and ants. Worms live in the holes, but the ants live in the steps. The slugs live up above.

O - So, I transformed my thing because it was too tall.

O - The problem was the slugs were needing to jump a lot and that wasn't working. But I decided to make a ladder! This way they can try and climb up.

What Do Bugs Do When No One Is Looking?

A - They are eating the logs. This is where they eat. And the leaves are there so they have a place to go to get out of the rain.

A - On the other side is for the flies. They jump around the forest here.

While children were outside, they were working with "eggs" to make sure they were getting ready to hatch.

Eggs in the nursery...

E - Let me check my computer. The red one is 3 days and the green one is 2 days.
