Today is Think About it Thursday! With all of the interest in letters we just knew we had to Think about them! We wondered how our friends might "make" their letters to show us. How might they represent their knowledge with this question?
Our friends know a LOT of letters! Some friends immediately picked up the marker and began writing every single letter they know. Some friends picked up the marker and wrote the letters in their names. Some friends picked up the marker and wrote one giant letter!
Some friends chose a letter die and rolled a letter and then wrote it...and then rolled and wrote another...and another...and another!
MS you brought me a letter from a different area in our classroom and the used your finger and "drew" it in the air!
ESE you picked up the letter dice and told me...
"I'm dropping letters!"
All of this work and it wasn't even breakfast time yet! We decided to continue to "think about it" during our morning meeting
"We don't have any paper."
hmmm...how can you show us then?
And that was all the prompting these friends needed! We used our hands, legs, arms, whole bodies...and even a friend to make letters!
"It's a "Q"." CF
"My whole body is an 'I'!" JB "Curl up like a roly poly and be the dot!"
"My legs are an "O". EM
JI you made an X with TWO parts of your body!
"I made a "P"." JA "I can make a "T"." RM
With our meeting complete we were ready to caper! We were excited to share our painting invitation with the Sycamore friends.
How does the music make you feel?
One of our friends said 'How can you make paint dance?" RM
I LOVE that!
"I made a music box." S
Ambrose friends LOVE to read. We were so excited that both the Birch and Sycamore rooms had a literature corner for capering today. We love to be busy and move, but sometimes we need a space to slow down and be quiet, either alone or with a friend.
CF you worked at the water table the ENTIRE time we capered today! We are happy to be able to provide the space for children to dig deep and settle into their play.
It was HARD work to work together in this space, but with lots of support and words of encouragement these friends created something amazing!
Wintergreen playdough in the Sycamore room was a place of "baking" and creating!
The Sycamore room has been sharing their love of storytelling. Today they shared the book Stickman and offered an opportunity to create a figure from the story for their classroom story props.
JB you made a stickman for the Sycamore class!
And of course, we shared our love of "discovered" letters with the Sycamore friends.
Finding the letters of our names hiding throughout our community has been so exciting for our friends. Your teachers were excited to discover this book that sparked a LOT of excitement, too!
