When we began our discussions of days of fun the very first suggestion was
"Be FAST!" JA
Be fast? Hmmm...let's talk about that. How do you think we can do that?
"Race!"
We talked all about what that might look like. We wondered about just running fast all around our room.
"That's not safe." JI Nope, probably not. So, what can we do to run fast AND be safe?
As our discussion went on some friends made a connection to Ms Lisa's daughter. They know she runs "fast as Sonic." JA and some of the friends even watched one of her races on a live video. This sparked a lot of ideas about what OUR race day might look like.
After careful planning our day was finally here. We started by watching a "real race" to help us get in the racing mood.
"She's wearing red shoes, that's why she is so fast." JA
After a rousing relay race we realized our teams didn't have names!
It didn't take long for our Birch friends to declare their new mascots.
Team Light Speed
and
Team Bears
Now that we knew who to cheer for we were headed for the next race. Another relay of sorts, but this one requiring balance and attention!
Our final race was the hurdles!
But this was not just an ordinary hurdle race. This race had an added element. The teams hurdled to the end of the straightaway, drew a paper slip from a bucket, and then used the movement to get back. We were
Bear crawling
spinning
frog jumping
scissor stepping
side stepping
crab walking
Our races took us almost to the end of our morning, but not before we headed to the "tree top" portion of our special day.
