Wow, the Birch room has been super busy today! The students began the morning by singing a greeting song and making choices in the room. A few students created "juices" out of light table materials while other friends built with loose parts. Some students "signed in" by finding their name and matching the letters in their name with letter blocks.
After our morning activities, we adventured outside to the playscape and played with a bunch of other classes. The students wanted to create an obstacle course and they built a tricky path!
Other students played instruments, and practiced catapulting pieces of tree bark with long wooden blocks.
We ended our morning by returning to the classroom and continuing our investigation about the green "banana" they found yesterday. After making observations about what the "banana" looks like, we decided to compare it to the yellow bananas that Ms. Susie brought from home. The students noticed how a yellow banana is the color yellow with a little bit of brown spots on the outside. One student shared how he thinks the green "banana" needs to "turn old and then it will become yellow, like Ms. Susie's banana."
After sharing our observations, Ms. Susie cut open a yellow banana and the students compared the smells of the two "bananas."
"It smells like popcorn."
"It smells like a plant."
"It smells yucky."
After comparing the smells, most of the class came to the conclusion that the green "banana" is not a banana. But what is it? The students decided that we need to adventure outside and find more of these plants. Stay tuned for more Birch adventures!
