This morning as we gathered for our morning meeting the Birch teachers said,
"Today we're going to be flexible."
No sooner had the words come from our mouths than we heard, "Hooray!" PS
With a smile I wondered why being flexible made this friend cheer.
"Because we are going to do something fun!" "I'm going to use my brain to figure it out!" PS
We have worked hard with our friends this year modeling what it looks like to have our plans change and ways to handle it. For many, change away from routine is hard. We like predictability. We like to know what to expect. AND, we can also be flexible!
Your teachers felt a swell of pride that the response we see now is one of excitement and wonder.
Today our flexibility took us to a favorite place, the forest!
The recent rains brought out the mud, and we all know that mud means FUN!
"Look what I found! I rolled a log and discovered him!" CG
We have come to the firm knowledge that magic lives under logs.
"Ms Lisa can you help us roll a log?" is a question I have come to expect, and today was no different!
"Look at this snail." JI
I wondered if there was a snail in there
"Nope, he's not in there anymore." JI
Hmmm, I wonder why he decided to leave this shell.
"Maybe he changed his mind and he wanted to be a slug now." JI
I love the way you are thinking about the differences between what you know about snails and slugs.
As these friends continued to explore the log, the came across a new creature!
We're not entirely sure what to name this creature.
Again, friends pulled from their experiences and knowledge.
Caterpillar?
Centipede?
We haven't settled the discussion, but we do all agree this is the friendliest little guy we have ever met!
All around us the children gathered in pairs, groups, and even alone to immerse themselves in the magic of the forest.
