Forest magic

"It's like a tropical rain forest!" CF

Our forest changes a bit each and every week.  The temperature, the rainfall, the sun and wind all play a part in setting the scene for the play and imagination we encounter.
The recent rain and the lush field of green gave us a feeling of exploring in a true rain forest!

One of the first things we noticed was a big fat worm.
"I'm trying to make him a home!" JB a friend declared, covering him with leaves.
"He doesn't live in the leaves!" CG
Diary of a Worm is a classroom favorite book right now and I wondered out loud what we might know about worms from this funny story.
"They live under the ground in the dirt!" CG
You are right.  You made a great connection between the world we see right in front of us, and a book we love so much.
You were so careful to touch this living thing gently and respect his space.
I see you remembering that we are kind to nature!

As we explored the worms of the "rain forest" two friends came up.
"Ms Lisa, we need your help." LB
You do?  What do you need my help with?
"We need you to roll a log."

Wow!  This log is REALLY big!
Maybe we can PULL it.
Hmmm...

This log is too big girls.  We aren't moving it.  What do you think we should do?
"Get more people!!!!!" RM

Now we have SO many friends.
"Ready?"
"Ready!"

A world previously unseen, hidden beneath this giant log was home to an entire universe of insects.
Roly Poly Bugs
Centipedes
Snails
Beetles
Worms
Slugs

We couldn't even look fast enough to take in all of the amazement.  It was an amusement park of nature springing up right in front of us and our Birch friends were ALL in!
From one end of the log to the other there were cries of discovery and children uncovered another miracle of nature.

Deep within this crack came a quick peek a boo of a head.
"It's a beetle!!!  I see a beetle in there!"
These friends made it their mission to unearth this creature to uncover it's true identity.
They were respectful and careful not to harm it as they used a stick tool to gently poke away at the edges of the hole.

As amazing as this new world of insects was, the forest holds so much more.
As I was walking with a friend, a few girls came up.
"What are you doing? JI
ET is going on an adventure.
"Can we come?"
Absolutely!
ET, you're the leader.  Where do you want to take us?
And, off we went on a grand adventure!

We wound silently through the paths of the forest.
Over
Under
Through
Our line of explorers went
We hit a spot that was riddled with stumps and branches.
"We can't get through there Ms L" LB
Hmmm, ET which way should we go?
And we watched as you turned our line around, stopped and waited for your friends, and led us right to the BEST spot in the deepest part of the forest.
A magical "loopy forest swing" JI

From beginning to end, and all parts in between our forest wove a magical spell of discovery for us.
We can't wait to go back.
