Can you build a story? What story do these books inspire you to tell? When you look at these pictures what do you think about? What does it remind you of? What connections to our work and community are you making?
JA you looked at this and noticed all the roots.
"I'm going to make the roots and the trunk part." JA
You looked carefully at the materials and started creating your tree. The trunk got bigger, bigger, bigger.
You stood your tree up...and it fell.
Hmmm...what do you know about the roots of a tree? How do they help the tree stand tall?
"I need to make them bigger." JA
And, bigger they got...and the tree stood tall!
He stood SO tall in fact, that a friend perched in his branches!
As JA began creating his story, SS you began creating your own story!
You picked up a red "rock" and told me it was a tree.
What kind of tree do you think about when you look at red?
"It's a fall tree." SS
Then you held up the next tree, and the next one, and the next one telling me about each tree and the connections you were making.
The blue was the icy cold, the brown is a "regular" tree, and the grey one is a tree in the dark forest!
Today we invited our capering friends to add to our stories.
Our friends built the story of our community!
"This is our little tree outside our classroom." SS
"This is the big log in the forest."
"I made the playscape." JI
"This is all the grass in the forest." LB
"This one is far away, it's a big skyscraper."
"These are the chimneys on all the houses. I have a chimney on my house." JW
Our entire community unfolded in front of us! It was an amazing collaboration between classrooms and friends, and was the perfect example of what capering is all about!
