What's in a name?

Each Monday, we use  our meeting time to take care of each student. We sit next to them, look them in the eye, say their name and put lotion on any owies. This is a time to connect, to acknowledge feelings, and to give 100% of our attention to just that person. It is a time to let them tell us exactly what they need, or even what they don't need. It is a space to help our brains and bodies grow. It is a way to start of week off on a loving and positive note.

During our meeting today, we made a connection between taking care of ourselves and taking care of our plants. During our Take Care meeting, we are careful and gentle. We are close and safe. We speak kind words and use each persons name.

We wondered if plants would like the same thing?

Do they like gentle, calm spaces?

Can we talk to our plants to help them grow?

How can we talk to our plants if we don't know their names?

Do plants have names?

How do we find out?!

On our walk, we stumbled upon a yard full of plants with tags. As we searched and read, we discovered they were name tags.
Creeping Phlox.
Chrysanthemum.
Coral Bells.
Slender Mountain Mint.

Inspired by the tags, we began naming what we saw.

We kept walking, using our looking eyes to find any other plants with names...

We met Juddii, Rosie Posie, Hancock, Lilly, Aster. They were all growing at Rolling Ridge.

What could we name our plants?

Can plants have people names too?

Where will we go from here?
