Identity and self-awareness are vital to the development of preschoolers. They help children understand who they are and how they relate to the world around them. Through exploring their own features, likes, and experiences, preschoolers build confidence and a positive self-image. Activities like creating self-portraits encourage children to notice their unique qualities, express their individuality, and develop a sense of belonging within their classroom community. This early understanding of self lays the foundation for empathy, social skills, and emotional growth.
This week, we worked to create self portraits that expressed who we see and who we are to our friends.
We painted.
We shared kind words about friends.
We worked on building puzzles of our face.
We wrote our names to show ownership over our work.
Put it all together and we created an amazing self portrait project to share with you at conferences!
