Tuesday Walk!

It was too nice of a day to miss out on a walk this week. Check out all the fun we had exploring our neighborhood. We ended our walk with a visit to Lollipop the Bear and a quick run around the top of the forest. It was a beautiful day with springtime like weather, spending our day outside is the best way to spend the day. 

We tried a little urban foraging today - did you know there is a sweet grass that grows in our neighborhood? A sweet grass that you can eat? Ms. Nicki taught us all about sweet onion grass/wild onion grass today. We even tried a little bite. It was so surprising how many Birch Friends loved the taste of onion.

Our taste test was followed up with a "YOU CAN'T JUST PICK PLANTS AND EAT THEM" conversation. No matter where you are, you should let it grow unless a grown up (who knows about plants) is there to help you! We walked and spied plants, then used a special app to help us learn the plant's name, if it was toxic to humans and/or animals, and if the plant was growing healthy. There are so many plants that look pretty, but you cannot eat. There are also a lot of plants that look the same, but not all are edible. There are some plants that people can eat, but dogs cannot.
