Collaboratory Time

We started our morning with a fire drill.  Before the drill we discussed where we go and when we hear the alarm go off.  We also discussed why we have fire drills and how we keep our bodies safe.  We all did a great job!

We had small group time today in the Collaboratory.  There were so many different structures being built.  We had houses, boats, and ships.  A group of children built a robot gas station.  This is where you can recharge your robot body. 

" I'm charging him up."                 "I have muscles now!"

"I'm making this so I can jump over it."

 

So many friends enjoyed trying this jumping game. A new game was then created with the blocks as a "Robot Diving Board".  This is how the robots used their energy. 

 

So much turn taking was used in this game. 

Classroom Agreements

Hello and happy Tuesday! The Birch room began this morning by making some choices in the classroom. After designing at the light table and building with puzzles and loose parts, we decided to try and beat some of the afternoon heat and enjoy the outdoors! The students explored the playscape with a bunch of other classes! We saw some siblings, old friends and made new friends as well!

After playing outside, we returned to the classroom and began to brainstorm some classroom rules or "agreements." The students shared their ideas on how to behave and treat one another at school. Below are some of the students' ideas:

• "No hitting."
• "Don't do somersaults on the carpet."
• "If a choice has too many friends, go find another choice and come back later."
• "Don't grab people."
• "No punching."

The class continued to talk about these ideas and we created these five agreements that we will follow in our classroom and in all school spaces.

"Have a safe body"

"Keep your hands to yourself"

"Use listening ears"

"Be kind to one another"

Mud Kitchen Monday

This morning we took some time outside to explore the Mud Kitchen on the hillside.  The kids were pretending to be working in a bakery making lots of cupcakes, pancakes and muffins. Yummy!!  They had to work together to get the table set up and decided who was going to play what role.  There was so much language being used! When I ordered some blueberry muffins I was told: "We don't have any batter yet. It's going to take ages." :-)  Eventually I did get my blueberry muffins

"I'm adding spices."

"Here's your salad girls."

These boys are trying to catch a grasshopper to add to their mixture.

We also began a new sign-in today with the kids.  During our morning choices the kids came over to a table with scrabble letters.  They had to find their name card and then find the letters in their name.  The kids were so proud of themselves as they completed their names.
