Building Challenges and Play-dough

Good afternoon! We hope you are enjoying this beautiful day!

The Birch room started this morning by completing a challenge. Two ducks sat on a stool in the classroom and wanted to make their way to the "water." The ducks needed the students to build a bridge in order to walk across and get to the water. The bridge needed to be supported or "up in the air." Of course, the student were up for the challenge!

They started off their building challenge by using the new, borrowed blocks from Spruce. After building, the students decided to create another bridge on top of the original in order to create a "diving board bridge" for the ducks.

"This is the diving board for the ducks. They can go really high!"

Other friends designed with rubber bands on the geo-board and created objects with play-dough.

Later in the morning, we split up into small groups. Ms. Brittany (our newest teacher working in the Birch room every so often) took some students to ride bikes in the gym. Another group of children went with Ms. Susie to make play-dough in the kitchen. We have brand new white, cinnamon scented playdough in our classroom!

A group of students went to the collaboratory for another building challenge. Each student had a partner. The pairs had to discuss what they were going to build and work together throughout their building process. There were four pairs and they built several objects! Throughout our time in the collaboratory, the students built four submarines, two basketball hoops, a garage for motorcycles and a house and gingerbread house. The students did a fabulous job at communicating their plans with one another and built with their partner throughout their time in the collaboratory.

"This is our submarine!"

"This is our house!"

"This is our motorcycle garage! We both have motorcycles."

"This is our basketball hoop. There's two of them."
After our morning activities, the class gathered in the collaboratory for the rest of the class to observe their creations. We ended the morning by going outside and enjoying the weather. Have a great rest of your day!
