Pajama Day!

Happy Friday! We enjoyed our first pajama day today in the Birch room! We also enjoyed taking a spooky walk to see what we notice around the neighborhood. Our class noticed more Halloween and fall decorations, tall trees, and people taking their dogs for walks. We also noticed more signs of fall like leaves changing colors and falling on the ground. While we were walking one of our friends noticed that we were close to her house and that it was just a little bit further up the hill! We decided to keep walking and exploring the neighborhood and even got to see one of our friend's houses on our walk. Ask your child about their favorite part of our walk. Have a great weekend!

Block Building Exploration

Today we enjoyed spending a lot of time building in the block area. The past couple weeks our class has been interested in building tall buildings, castles, and zoos for our animals and peg people. They worked together to create their own buildings and castles. Some of our class wanted to make signs for their buildings or castles that say "Don't knock down our castle!" They worked hard to write the letter sounds that they heard to make their own signs to put by their castle. We also spent a little bit of time outside where our class played follow the leader, an animal game, and explored the mud. We also loved climbing up the rock climbing wall and sliding down the slide. Ask your child about their favorite part of today. Have a great evening!

Exploring Maps of Ambrose

Good afternoon! Today we bundled up and enjoyed some fresh air on the playscape. Our class enjoyed making a marching band with instruments, playing family, and pretending to be animals. Did you know that we have a new wishing well that was built for us last month? Our class really enjoys making music with the wishing well by pouring small rocks inside. When we came inside we looked at Google Earth to see a map of our school and neighborhood. I pointed out our school, the hillside, the playscape, Bristol, and the forest. Our question was "What can you discover when you slow down and notice?" while looking at the map. Our class noticed many things such as "I noticed that the trees in the forest look like pieces of broccoli!" -A. "I noticed a hexagon shape on the pergola area. I think it's the table we sit at." -M.R. and "I noticed this circle, it looks like a Milky Way!" -F. Ask your child about what they noticed on our map!

F. showed me how to use our new wishing well!

M.S. found a small shell that looks like a snails shell.

A. found some cheerios on a string hanging the tree. We wondered what animal would eat them.

How can we make sounds with nature?

Today we walked to the forest and listened to the sounds of the forest.  We asked, "How can we make sounds with nature? We came up with many different ways to make sounds at the forest and listened to the sounds of nature. We heard the light drizzle of the rain as it hit the leaves. We heard the wind blow leaves off the trees. We made noises jumping in puddles and swooshing our boots through the leaves. When we got back to the classroom, we read the book "Music Everywhere." Ask your child about the surprise sign we found in the forest today and what they wrote back.

"How can we make sounds with nature?"

"If you tap two sticks together." -A.

"I hear birds" -M.R.

"Do you hear it?" - A.

"We can use sticks to make sound" -B.

"The birds make a chirping sound!" -B.

"Talking" -M.Y.

"Peek a boo- I see you!"-T.

"I hear the raindrops. My coat is getting full of drizzles." -M.R.

"We can rub leaves together."-S.

"Like this!" -M.S. & A. Jumping in a mud pile

"I can hit the tree like this!" -F.

"We found a sign!" -T.

Outdoor Small World

Good afternoon! Today we enjoyed spending time outside before the rain. In our front outdoor space we had the chance to explore a new small world set up by the Magnolia classroom. This small world included bridges, rocks, ladders, tree stumps, and other items found in nature. Our class enjoyed playing with it and telling stories with the peg people and small butterflies in the small world. While we were outside our class also had fun playing a space game and pretending to fly on a space shuttle. The space shuttle is the giant tree they like to climb on and then pretend to blast off into space! Inside we practiced using our tapping sticks and following along to the songs. Ask your child about their favorite tapping stick song!

Friday Fun

Happy Friday! Today we enjoyed using our wooden blocks to build in the classroom. Our class created big castles, zoos, and ramps for animals and people. It was great seeing our class work together to build different parts of the structures. Since we worked so hard on our buildings we decided that we want to save them so some of our class made signs that say "Don't knock over our castle!" When we went outside we used obstacle course pieces to create our own obstacle course on the sidewalk! We used teamwork to get all of the heavy pieces out of the crate and place them where we wanted them. We learned that we have to go slow and balance in order to stay on all the parts of the obstacle course. Have a great weekend.
