Special Classroom Spaces

Thank you so much to those who were able to make the Open House last night. During our visit, we looked at several spaces in the classroom which serve a positive purpose for our classroom growth. Today's blog will take you on a photo tour of a few of those spaces, what they are, and how we use them.

HALLWAY WELCOME SPACE

Many of you have noticed our rainbow log with the Birch Room Water Bottle Basket. Each morning, when you arrive, you student should be putting their bottle here. Having a routine each morning offers not only a great way to start the day, but also provides consistency and a sense of ownership over their space and their belongings.

You will also notice above the rainbow is a picture of the weeks breath. If you would like to add taking a breath to your routine, great! If you want to use this as a chance for you student to teach you something they learned in school, amazing! These are all simply tools for each student to find success in the classroom.

SAFE SPACE

Many friends utilize our safe space as a place to identify and calm big feelings. There is not learning when our bodies and brains are in chaos or discomfort. We have tools in this space to help us help our class work through anger, sadness, tiredness, over excitement, or any big feelings. We offer this space, and our support, whenever needed.

These are a few ways we help student work through big feelings. If you would like copies of any tools, please reach out.

BIRCH ROOM BIG QUESTIONS

Children ask the most amazing questions. When we hear them and understand that they can be a tool to learn, we write them down and post them. Having these questions available serves as a reminder to the grown ups and students about where we are focusing our learning. Often, these questions lead to more questions.

BIRCH FAMILY WALL

We are a Birch Room Family, and we have a family at home. This family photo wall provides a space for everyone to see the important people in our lives outside of school as well as a space for us to come and see our loved ones when we miss them during the day!

And because amazing learning happens all the time, here are some photos from the day.
