Playdough Smells and Walks

Today a small group took a trip to the kitchen to make playdough.  When we got to the kitchen we looked up a recipe for the playdough.  When I asked the kids "What is a recipe?" they said "It tells you the ingredients"  Another one said, "It tells you what to do" We read the recipe and mixed all the ingredients together.

Once the playdough was done cooking everyone took a hunk to knead out.  The kids noticed that the playdough didn't smell very good.  One student asked if we could make it smell "yummy"  We went over to the spice shelf and looked at all the different spices we had. Most of the kids did not like the smells: nutmeg, clove or ginger. Everyone like the basil. Once they knew we were adding them to the playdough all of a sudden they like all the smells! Now our playdough smells SOO good! 

After our small group time we all took a walk to the sculpture park to enjoy the sunshine and warmer weather.
