Today was PACKED full of eventfullness! Is that really a word? Well, it should be because that's how we feel about our day!
We started off with Think about it Thursday. Our friend HW brought his teachers peppers and we knew as soon as we saw them exactly what we would do with them!
A few days ago we invited friends to look closely at them and notice the differences in color. We had amazing still life pictures. We saved some of our peppers, and today we asked...
DO YOU LIKE PEPPERS?
I was so surprised at the number of friends who said "yes"
Some even told me "I LOVE peppers!"
With the peppers sliced and right in front of our friends I wondered if anyone would ask to eat one. The answer...yes!
"I want to eat one of those!"
But not everyone gave a thumbs up, yes to peppers.
Many friends said no, nope, NO WAY!
E, you made me laugh when you came to answer the question.
"I'm going to draw it."
You're going to draw me a pepper?
"Nope. I'm going to draw my anwer!"
Oh! So what is your answer?
"You'll have to wait and see!"
Nope! Now we got the chance to taste them!
With all of those friends who said "no" they don't like peppers we offered a "no thank you" bite. What is that? Well, it's an opportunity to try a new thing. It's a small morsel, a tiny tidbit, a try-it-and-you-just-might-like-it opportunity! Some friends popped those peppers right into their mouths and asked for more. Other friends...well...they gave us a side-eyed look as if to say "are you really going to make me eat this thing??? We for sure aren't going to make you eat it. How about if you just SMELL it? What does it smell like? How does it feel on your hands? Maybe you could even lick it! And...before we knew it, some of those friends who were absolutely certain they didn't like peppers, put those "no thank you" bites in their mouths and...they liked them!!!
So, we can't wait for you to ask your Birch student if he or she likes peppers tonight! And, now that you know about the magic of the "no thank you" bite, we can't wait for you to use it at home too!
As we said, it was such a busy day, so after all of the fun of Think About it Thursday we capered!!!
Our big question in the Birch room was How can you make paint MOVE?
We offered students three different ways to see how the paint moved. What happens when you add paint onto these surfaces? Does it matter what kind of paint you use? Does it matter where you put the paint? We had some amazing discussions as our friends began to think in new ways that stretched their learning!

As if all of this wasn't enough we also had a VERY special birthday celebration. Webster Groves' very own Dr. John Simpson turned 50 today and the Birch friends included him in the way we honor birthday friends in our room.
It was a SPECTACULAR day!
