We have been so fortunate to have all of our Forest Fridays be nice weather...until today. Brrrrrr! It's COLD! "Are we going to the Forest?" "Why can't we go to the forest?" "When are we going to the forest?" We heard variations on these questions several times. We shared with the children that even teachers have rules that we have to follow, and one of our rules that keeps us all safe is to stay indoors when the temperatures are too cold. Today's windchill only allowed for 10-15 minutes outdoors; definitely not enough time to get to the forest and back.
So, what to do to make our Forest Friday special? We turned it into a Frolicking Friday! We went around the corner in our building and created a morning filled with fun with the Spruce and Oak classrooms!
There were so many opportunities for sensory exploration throughout our spaces.
Playdough is ALWAYS fun.
Squeeze, pinch, flatten, roll playdough is fun!
With all of the holiday baking and sweet treats a sensory tub of oats and cinnamon provided a tactile and olfactory sensory experience!
With the Birch room being around the corner it was too challenging to safely have our classroom be a frolicking space. So we opened up the collaboratory for children to work together.
With the gross motor building, and opportunities to move in large ways, this was a favored space. Friends were lining up to go in, and standing outside to wait.
Waiting is SO hard!
We wanted all of our friends to explore and play while they waited for a spot to open up so we started a sign up sheet! If you want to play in the collaboratory, sign in and we will let you know when it's your turn!
Squigs are the MOST fun! They stick to surfaces and make the most satisfying "pop" when they get pulled off.
These friends found a way to interact with one another even though not in the same space!
Frolicking is such fun for our children. But our teachers love it just as much!
