Letter walk

 How can we be flexible?  We often ask this of our friends as they work alongside, and with one another.  We model this flexibility all the time, and today was no different.  

We all know that Wednesdays are for walking.  But we know that tomorrow is going to be a rainy day so we likely won't get our walk in.  Rather than missing out, we shifted our plans and decided to walk today!

As we headed out we wondered what letters we might find in our community?

"You mean 'letter-letters'?" CG one friend asked.  Hmmm....well, I don't know.  What other kinds of letters are there?

"Maybe I can find MY letter." JA  What letter is YOUR letter?  "It's a 'J' for J------." JA     "Mine is a 'D' for D---." DM.  That sparked a chorus of friends calling out their letters.  And with that excitement, off we went!

"There's a 'G' for G------." GC

And there's an exclamation point, we commented.  And your friend shouted your name!  If ever there was a friend whose name should be shouted with excitement, it is yours.  You are the happiest friend ever!

"Look!  There's parking spot letters!" HW

"I see my 'K'" ESE

You found some letters right here in our parking lot, and they even match some of the letters in your name!

As we exited the parking lot, something amazing happened.

"I see a sparkly light up 'O'." JI

Wow!  I see exactly what you are noticing.  You mean there are letters hiding in the things around us?  Letters that AREN'T "letter-letters"?!

It was as if the whole world around us looked different.  Suddenly there were letters EVERYWHERE!

"An 'X'!"

Wow!  You mean there are letters even in nature?!  

"There's another 'X' in the fence!" DM

Letters were all around us!  Check out some of the places we found them "hiding" in our community.

"There's an 'I'" ESE

"Look.  This crack looks like a 'U'." RM

"It's an 'H' for H---!" HW

And as we hurried into the playscape as the rain began we discovered our last two letters right there in front of us!

"It's a "v'!"

"And a GIANT letter 'H'!"

After all of this discovery we decided to keep the momentum going.

What letters did you find?  Work with a friend and write the letters you remember.

We made a chart of all of the letters.  Which ones did we find?  How can we be sure?  How will we know what letters we need?

"We can check them off!"

So we projected our images on the wall, figured out what letter they were, found the matching letter on our chart and marked it off!  

WOW!  What a great morning of discovery!

But...we're still missing some letters.  What should we do?
