 Today your teachers decided to get you thinking..and moving!  We asked our friends...

Can you do a somersault?

Typically we sign in and cast our votes, but today we changed things up a bit.  We asked and responded to our question during our meeting time, and "voted" by making a tally mark.

"Yes" or "No"

Can you do a somersault?

We weren't sure what the children would do given the question.  Would they reply verbally?  Would they make a tally mark?  Would that actually DO a somersault?

We are never sure what to expect!

Child after child after child...we got ALL tally marks and NO somersaults!

Most of our friends just simply make their "yes" mark and passed the marker to the next friend.

A few friends marked "no", and one friend told us "I'm still learning." CG

I love that answer!  We are ALL still learning!  It is a very brave thing to tell others.  Great job CG!

So, the results are in!  But...what do they tell us?

You may think our Think About Thursday questions are all about fun, and of course you are right.  And they are ALSO about learning!  Today our results allowed our friends to show us their numeracy knowledge.

This is what our lines look like.  So, do we have more "yes" or more "no" lines?

"More yes!" we heard lot of friends shout.

Hmmm..you said more yes, but how can we be certain?

"We can count them."

You are right.  Let's do it!

Now that we have counted, let's write those numbers down.  We have had LOTS of opportunities to write letters, but not nearly as many to write down numbers.  Numbers are tricky.  We have counted the dots on dice, we can count how many gems we have...but how does that relate to writing the number?

  

Well, now that we had a vote, and we had an accurate count, how can we SHOW that we can do a somersault?

Our friends were so excited that when we shifted back into our classroom space your teachers provided a safe way for you to continue your rolling!

We have enjoyed our time with our families this week during family chats, and look forward to those with whom we are meeting tonight.
