As we progress through the year we continue to look closely and zoom into the interests of the Birch friends. We have noticed a keen interest in magnets and magnet building We are fortunate enough to have wonderful teachers in other rooms who are willing to share their materials with us when our interests lead us to something we don't yet have! Such is the case with these awesome magnet builders. We have had the larger magnets for some time, bringing them in and out of our materials rotation. The small magnetic rods are a new addition from our friends in the Spruce room and WOW are they a hit!
Our stump table has been a space for small group magnetic exploration for some time but today a new way to explore was added. There are two surfaces nearby. I wonder what our friends will notice?
Our friends IMMEDIATELY noticed our hanging invitation. Within seconds there were magnets dangling, swaying and "dripping" down. Our friends don't know it, but working overhead like this is a great way to make our muscles stronger! And...it's just FUN!
With all of the excitement about the overhead invitation, the new black board behind the friends went unnoticed for quite a bit. Until one friend glanced that way with a magnet in hand and...
HEY! THEY STICK HERE TOO!!!!!" ESE
This new magnetic exploration space has sparked so much interest!
JI, I love the way you began to organize the magnets by color!
MS, you stuck each individual tiny magnet rod allllll over the board.
Other friends noticed that when you put the magnet rods together they won't stick on the board...but the roll down it! THAT was an excititing discovery!
Our block space has been relocated and that is all we needed to do to spark interest in building in all new ways.
We can build UP!
We can build LONG.
We can build amazing intricate structures!

HW, you and CW worked for a LONG time together covering every single inch of carpet with blocks. And each one of them had a specific role and purpose.

"WOW! Like the subway goes in! Check it out!" ESE
CW, I can tell you know something about navigating safely through this space. I watched as you placed another arch shaped block over your tunnel.

We got a person and you showed me how they go through the special gate up and over the subway! I LOVE it!
These three friends worked together so beautifully to create a true masterpiece!
This space was a quiet reflective space today. It was used throughout our morning in very quiet intentional ways when our friends just wanted to be still.
Our Makerspace has taken on a life of its own! Recycled materials and parts, glue and tape and wire, paper and plastic, and of course, our imaginations all combined to create a place where magic happened. Some friends came and went quickly, and others never left then entire morning.
EM you worked diligently with purpose to create your work.
These friends worked quickly to accomplish a specific goal and then moved on when the work was done.
RM you didn't not have a specific plan in mind but rather created as you went along being inspired by the work you noticed others doing, taking bits of ideas from several friends and combining them into your own.
DM you chose your materials based on color! Every single white material on our table was combined onto your base to create a visual masterpiece. And then you took one single black piece and placed it on your art. It reminded me of the great works by abstract artists. It is a masterpiece!
MS you simple adore tiny things in containers. No matter the invitation you find a way to create a container and fill it with bits of marvelousness. I could not help but smile as I sat by you and noticed you making the teeniest snips of straws and filling a bottle cap with them.

On our last Walking Wednesday we picked up this amazing tree branch and just new we were going to make it into something spectacular. Our friends love our beads and the special way we use them to celebrate birthdays and kindnesses. We realized that the beads fit right onto the branches!
This has been a beautiful space to create and use those tiny finger muscles too!
Our sticks have become the most beautiful work of art when paired with our new washi tape. These friends LOVE to wrap and wrap and wrap the tape around these sticks. They are working together in such meaningful and intentional ways!
It was a wonderful Tuesday in the Birch room!
