Birch Room Pumpkin Patch

This morning, more pumpkins and gourds arrived in our classroom. Children have been interested in pumpkins since they are all around our community. 

We asked the question, "What can you create with pumpkins?"

Many ideas came out - pumpkin patch, a painting, drawing, and more. The one that stuck was a pumpkin patch. Soon it became clear that it was a pumpkin business!

E - Buy your pumpkins here! 

M - How much? 

E - $5,000

Miss Brooke - Woah! That is an expensive pumpkin!

M - Yeah I agree. But I have the money *shrugs* 

After this, children decided we needed to make some money that they can use to buy pumpkins.

Some children created a sign for the pumpkin store. We talked about the sounds we heard in the words. Then we decided where to hang it. 

F - That letter is in my name! It's F!

B - ssss sound says C! Like cinnamon

Next thing that children noticed is that at pumpkin patches, there are areas for kids to play. Immediately someone pointed out that we were missing one.

Miss Brooke - So what fun thing could we add to our patch? 

F - I do not want to build a corn maze. That is too hard

B - Well we could make something else

E - I want to race the pumpkins! 

R - Pumpkin race!!! 

S - Yeah let's make a pumpkin race! 

Now the Birch Room Pumpkin Patch has a pumpkin race. Children would buy their pumpkins and take them through the race. After they went through, they would return them. Children took turns working at the patch taking money and rebuilding the race. 

Many signs went up all over our room to let people know about the pumpkin patch!
