Large Bird Drawing

We have been investigating birds the last few weeks.  We have observed different bird feeder cams from around the world, gone on bird and nest hunts in our neighborhood and recently we have been drawing birds.  We have a large book of bird photographs the children have been recreating.  As the children draw we talk about what shapes they see, where they see lines, and the different colors of the bird.  Today we did a large projection of a bird and the students traced the bird onto paper.  As they were tracing we discussed the different parts of the bird, where we saw lines and colors change.  Once the bird was traced we used oil pastels to color in the bird.

"This is tricky. Its hard to stay out of your own way. I have to draw sideways to do it" 

I'd say the kiddos did a pretty good job!
