Making crayons

Hello everyone, we hope you are having a great Wednesday! We began our morning by singing a few morning greeting songs and made choices. Our choices today consisted of building with trains and blocks, creating objects with magnets and plus plus blocks, designing with rubber bands and completing new puzzles!

You might notice that some of the following pictures are from yesterday...and that's because some of them are! The students decided that they would like to create their own crayons, so we are working hard to make this happen!

We began by discussing what we want our crayons to look like and most of the class decided that they would like to make rainbow crayons. We have silicone trays that consist of different shapes. The students decided to separate the crayons by color. 

After sorting all of our crayons, the students began breaking the crayons into tiny pieces and we used special knives to help us chop them up! But first, we talked about safety and the proper way to hold the knife, so everyone stays safe. 

 

The students have done a fabulous job at keeping the colors separate (in case anyone wants to make a specific color crayon) and taking turns chopping up the pieces. We hope to make them soon! Enjoy your afternoon.
