Terrific Tuesday

 We have been so excited to receive some of the items on our Spring wish list.  Thank you so much for adding to the joy of our learning.  These beautiful gem blocks have been a huge hit with friends creating amazing towers of beauty.

Today as our friends built I noticed that many of the structures were stacked one block atop another and I couldn't see the beautiful gems.  I issued a challenge.

How can you build a structure so that I can see ALL of the beautiful gems?

As we explored the art of perspective we decided to add a new challenge.

What can you create with just 20 blocks?

We continued with our words of kindness today.

With each friend that comes over we talk about what words and actions are "kind"

We often hear of playing with friends, or doing eating ice cream, or similar super-fun things like that.

Those things are SO fun.  But, again, how are they 'kind'

We have this book as a resource to refer to and today we used in a new way.

As we read together we noticed the words we heard.

How can we remember that juicy, kind word?

Write it down!

So together we made a list of kindnesses we noted in the book.

With our list close by we noticed our piles of amazing kindness drawings.

I wonder what words of kindness go with these pictures?

Which one of these pictures should we use?

"This one!" GC

Wow, that is a beautiful picture.  What do you think is happening?

"There are hearts, and friends, and smiles.  It looks like a PARTY!" GC

Wow!  It sure does.  Hmmm...what is a kindness that happens at a party?

"When you celebrate someone." GC

Wow, you are exactly right.  Celebrating someone is a beautiful way to show them kindness.

I wrote the word "celebrate" on our list and you found each and every letter to add to your kindness drawing.  You added beads and so proudly hung it on our art cube.  

I imagine you were thinking about the ways we have celebrated one another this year in our class room.  Those celebrations make us feel special, and loved by our friends.

They are definitely kind!

CG, you LOVE the words of kindness we have collected together.

You noticed the hearts all over this drawing and immediately told me you needed to add

"LOVE" to our list

MS you showed me a picture and told me a beautiful story of helping a friend who was hurt.  Together we talked about what a person does that is kind, what are the words of kindness?

"You take care of them." MS

Yes!  Take care is a great way to show kindness to someone.

We worked SO hard matching the letters I wrote to the letters on the beads.  You looked back and forth back and forth, and you found every single one!

We often ask our friends what they know about math.

Today our invitation was paired with dice, number cards and tiles, and loose parts gems.

AD, you were on FIRE with your math brain today!

You were rolling the dice, finding the corresponding card and tile, and then counting out that number of gems!

You kept adding them up and up and up and up!

You were so excited to show your teachers what you were doing that your enthusiasm was contagious.  Soon you were joined by a group of friends all eager to show us what they know about math!
