How to Grow a "Sunflower"

 

Happy Monday! Today we began making a collage of the color yellow as well as played outside by the snail! One friend found half of a walnut:

R: This is a seed. Maybe we can plant it!

Ms. Lacey: What kind of seed is it?

R: It's a sunflower! It's gonna be a big sunflower! We need to dig a hole and put it inside.

She then proceeds to scour the hillside for the perfect planting spot. She tries one spot and is met with resistance. 

R: It's too hard! Let's find another place.

So she goes to the other side and tries to dig. The dirt is hard and she can only get small bits of dirt up with her shovel.

R: Where should we plant it? This is too hard!

Ms. Lacey: I wonder if the sunflower wants to grow by some friends. Where would that be?

R: By the bushes!

She runs up the hill to the bushes and begins to dig. She gently places the walnut inside the hole and covers it back up.

Ms. Lacey: How long will it take the sunflower to grow?

She holds up both hands, fingers spread wide

R: This many days!

R: We finally found a place where the sunflower can grow!
