What Colors Live in the Forest?

Today is our Forest Day and we asked the children the question, "What Colors Live in the Forest?". Before we left I asked them to think about what colors do you think will be in the forest. 

B: "Lots of green"

F: "And a lot of brown"

M: "Sometimes there is gold in the forest" 

We made our predictions and while doing that we were hoping we would see other colors. 

 

 

As children walked through the Forest, they noticed many different colors: yellow, black, pink, purple and red. The berries are changing from green to purple and many of them were very excited to start playing with them. 

M: "This won't come off my hands!"

M: "Yeah and you can't eat them either!"

Miss Brooke: "Can you tell me about your play with the berries?"

F: "We are collecting as many as we can. We need them for the birds"

Miss Brooke: "Do the birds eat them?"

F: "Yes. C and A are helping me collect them"

C: "The black ones are the best."

A: "Yeah definitely. They are so squishy"

C: "Yes, but we don't want any that are squished on the ground. They are just too messy"

Throughout our time, they collaborated together to gather as many as they could. Some children were gathering the berries and some were taking the berries off the stem. Engaging in imaginative play allows children to experiment with their world around them. They are able to do this in a way that allows them to feel safe to take risks.
